WHERE EVERYTHING IS MUSIC We’ve fallen into the place where everything is music. Strumming and flute notes fill the atmosphere. Even if the harp of the world should burn up There’ll still be a hidden instrument, here. So the candle flickers, and goes out. We still have this flint, and a spark. This singing art is a sea wave Grace, a pearl on the ocean floor. We’ve fallen into the place where everything is music Poems reach up like spindrift on the sand. Flowering from a root we can’t see A seashell I hold now in my hand. So the candle flickers, and goes out. We still have this flint, and a spark. This singing art is a sea wave Grace, a pearl on the ocean floor. We’ve fallen into the place where everything is music. Everything, everything is music Everything, everything is music Everything, everything is muse...

A CRYSTAL RIM The Earth lifts its glass to the sun and light pours in A bird comes and sits on the crystal rim and from my forest cave I hear singing… An emerald bird rises from within me and sits on the crystal glass I have left that dark cave forever my body is blending with his Now I lay out my wing as a bridge to you So you may join us singing… The Earth lifts its glass to the sun and light pours in The Earth lifts its glass to the sun and light pours in

Only Breath 04:15
ONLY BREATH Neither Christian nor Jew nor Moslem, nor Hindu, Buddhist, Sufi, or Zen Not any religion or cultural system I'm not from the East of the West Nor out of the ocean nor up from the ground Not natural or ethereal, composed of elements at all I do not exist Nor belong to this world or the next I did not descend from Adam and Eve or any origin story My place is the placeless, a trace of the traceless, Neither body nor soul My place is the placeless, a trace of the traceless, Neither body nor soul I belong to the beloved, have seen the two worlds as one, And that one call to and know, The first, the last, the outer, the inner, Only that breath breathing Only that breath breathing Only that breath breathing Human being Human being Human being

Twins 02:56
Twins I will tell you and you will tell me and we'll tell each other laughing of our unforeseen steps in this life we live and we'll tell each other, laughing of the tiny forests in the heart and the ethereal bird in our voice I will tell you, and you will tell me and we'll slowly open the immense fan of ocean that we've never seen

SONG FOR NICHIREN You came into my life from a thousand years ago And many thousands of miles away You gave me this chant and you gave me this shrine And with these I polish the mirror of each day polish the mirror of each day Rice cakes on my windowsill And a basket of fruit Moon growing full As it crosses the sky Heron unfurling wings To fly These I give to you As these you give to me As I polish the mirror of each day These I give to you As these you give to me As your sun burns my sorrows away And I think of you now, alone on your island As I am alone on mine Together we’ll bring fortune from a distant shore As your life is joined to mine Life joined to mine. . . You came into this life a thousand years ago And many thousands of miles away You gave me this chant and you gave me this shrine And with these I polish the mirror of each day Polish the mirror of each day Polish the mirror of each day

about

A Crystal Rim offers five songs of peace and respite for our troubled times: four poems by the ancient Sufi poets Rumi and Hafiz and by 20th C. Spanish poet Gabriel Celaya, adapted and set to music; and a bonus song inspired by Brian's Buddhist practice.
This collection of songs renews the spirit in the elixirs of poetry!
